One Day in Middleburg, Virginia

The small town of Middleburg is a charming stop outside of Washington DC. With a population of under 1500 people, it is a classic “one horse town” that is a perfect choice for a relaxing escape to the countryside!

1. Cuppa Giddy Up

For your first stop in Middleburg, you can start your day off with a coffee from Cuppa Giddy Up! Grab yourself a t-shirt while you’re at it to shout out such a fun name for a coffee spot!

2. Common Grounds

To pair with your coffee, you can walk down the street to Middleburg’s Common Grounds to pick up a pastry or breakfast sandwich! This is the most popular spot in town to meet up for a light breakfast.

3. Shop on Washington Street

The main drag in Middleburg, Washington Street, has a ton of cute boutique shops to walk through for some great finds – or great gifts! Some popular favorites in Middleburg include:

4. Middleburg Books

When you’ve shopped until you’re ready to drop, you can take a visit to Middleburg Books, grab yourself a new novel or magazine, and sit down at the cute red table outside of the shop and enjoy your new read! This is also a great spot to sit down and people watch!

5. Glenstone Gardens

For a fun special event in the middle of your day, you could sign up for a floral workshop hosted by Gllenstone Gardens! Depending on their event schedule, the floral workshops are also often combined with a Garden Club lunch on one of their garden grounds!

6. The Middleburg Musuem

For a look into local history, you could next check out the Middleburg Museum! This local museum takes a look at the history of the small Virginia town of Middleburg, along with its surrounding farmlands!

The museum occasionally hosts its own events and reenactments, so you can check their event schedule here if in case it lines up with your trip as well!

7. The Salamander

For your afternoon, I recommend heading over to the Salamander to explore some of the many walking trails they have in their grounds! The Salamander is one of the nicest hotels in Middleburg, but even if you are not staying overnight they have beautifully kept walking trails through the surrounding forest.

They also offer cooking classes on their main level if you would like to sign up for a class! If a spa is more your speed, they also offer spa services as well.

8. Sunset at a Vineyard

The surrounding areas of Middleburg are known for their vineyards over rolling hills of the country side. Some popular locations include Cana Vineyards, Stone Tower Winery, Greenhill Vineyards, and Crimson Lane Vineyards.

For the next part of your day, we recommend hanging out on the patio of Cana Vineyards to enjoy some live music and local drinks! Maybe even pack yourself a watercolor set? A little crafting while enjoying craft beer? Sounds nice to me.

9. Harriman’s Grill

To end your day, you can spend an evening dining back at the Salamander resort at their restaurant, the Harriman’s Grill. This is a fine dining location for a cozy night in the countryside, with beautiful decor and great window views!

After dinner, you can also kick back by the fire places in the sitting areas before heading home for bed.
