The Best Way To Spend One Day in Cádiz, Spain
One of the oldest established cities in all of Europe, the southern beach town of Cádiz is full of history and cultural significance. This, plus the fact that it’s seated along a beautifully blue ocean, makes it a great escape to add to your roadtrip through Spain! Continue reading to learn what is best to prioritize during your one day in Cádiz!

1. Go To The Beach
Now if I’m being honest, the way we spent the majority of our own day in Cádiz was claiming a nice spot in the sand and enjoying a few hours by the ocean. The city is surrounded by the Bay of Cádiz that feeds into the Atlantic Ocean, and the water is beautifully clear and warm to swim in during the summer months.
There are a few beaches to choose from in Cádiz, but they are all connected and walkable from one to the next. A good place to start due to their expansive space are Playa de la Victoria or Playa de La Cortadura.
2. Visit the Mercado Central
Another must do while in Cádiz is popping into the Mercado Central (the city’s central market). At this large public market, you can enjoy prepared meals, purchase groceries, shop for souvenirs, and simply enjoy the lively atmosphere of locals going about their days. This is a great place to try fresh oysters or other seafood snacks right from the sea.
The Mercado Central is casual, so it’s a perfect stop in the middle of a beach day to refuel and escape the sun before heading back out to the shoreline.
3. The Cathedral of Cádiz
A stop into the Cathedral of Cádiz (Catedral de Cádiz) is impressive from top to bottom, literally. It’s beautiful architecture is representative of evolving styles, from Baroque to Neoclassical, that blended together in its over one hundred years of construction. Its lower level was configured to utilize echo chambers to allow you to hear as little as a whisper from across the room if standing in the right spot. And lastly, its bell tower offers one of the best views of Cádiz in the entire city.

If you’re sure to build in the three activities above, you’re sure to have a successful day in Cádiz. Given how much the sun can take out of you on a beach day, it’s totally fine if you hit this point and decide you’re ready to go back to your hotel, call it a day, and unwind!
