One Day in Monteverde, Costa Rica
Monteverde is a popular tourist town in the northeast of Costa Rica, about a 2.5 hour drive from San José. While many like to enjoy a few days surrounded by the peaceful reserve Monteverde is so well known for, if you plan in advance you should be able to hit all of the major attractions that the area offers in just one day! 1. Visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
By far what Monteverde is most well-known for, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve spans over 40 square miles and houses hundreds of local species of wildlife. Visitors are able to explore well-maintained trails supported by the Tropical Science Center, an organization committed to protecting rainforests & educating the public about the cloud forest and environment.
The cloud forest is an idyllic location to see Costa Rican wildlife up close, and is a very popular destination for birdwatchers. The reserve also utilizes a hanging bridge that weaves right across the forest’s canopy – just another reason visitors like to add this to their bucket list.

Entrance fees for the reserve are $25 USD (~17,300 colones) for an adult, and $12 USD (~8,300 colones) for children.
2. Take a Coffee & Cacao Bean Tour
Most visitors spend just a few hours exploring the cloud forest reserve, leaving the whole afternoon free for a little coffee & chocolate tasting!
Monteverde hosts several farms & plantations that focus on sugarcane, cacao beans, and coffee beans as their primary crops. Another popular tourist activity for the area is signing up for a tour of one of these plantations to not only learn about how each are grown, but sample fresh products!

One of the most popular coffee & chocolate combination tours in Monteverde is hosted by Don Juan Family Tours. The experience lasts about 2.5 hours and standard rates are $45 USD (~30,000 colones) per person.
3. Zip-Line Through the Cloud Forest
One of the most popular tourist activities in Costa Rica, you’ll want to make sure you get the chance to zip-line before your trip is up! While there are many opportunities to zip-line, if you would like to book your experience in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve itself, look no further than Selvatura Park Canopy Tour. This experience is the only zip-line located inside the reserve!
Including fifteen different cable lines, you should plan for this activity to fill about 2.5 hours of your day. This experience costs about $88 USD (~51,000 colones) per person.

But if you truly only have time for one of the other, it mostly depends on what you would like to do during your trip.
