One Day in Xian, China
Xi’an is one of the most popular tourist destinations in China, due largely in part to its close proximity to the impressive terra-cotta warrior army. I think it would be worth a visit regardless, because while it is a large city with much to do, it has many pockets of serene parks and open streets to walk around. If this is your first time visiting Xi’an, check out our one day itinerary below to find the best things to do!
1. Terracotta Warriors Museum
While not directly in Xian, you should not miss the opportunity to see the famous Terracotta Warriors while in the area. Located in Lintong, under an hour away from Xian, this clay army of men & horses from Qin Shi Huang’s dynasty is renown as the “Eighth Wonder of the World” today.
We recommend spending the morning learning about the history and admiring the feat that is the terra-cotta warrior army. The entrance fee to the museum is 120 yuan per person, and opening hours are from 8:30 in the morning to 16:30 in the afternoon.
2. Muslim Snack Street
For lunch, we recommend going back to the Muslim Quarters in the city of Xi’an to explore new local food, as Xi’an is well known for their variety of snacks. Though nicknamed “Muslim Snack Street,” this area of the city is actually an intersection of many shopping streets full of food vendors, so there will be a lot to explore!

The snack streets are free to enter, but be sure to bring a pocket book so you can try some of the food!
3. Xi’an City Wall
A remarkably well preserved fortress around the city, another great stop for your itinerary is the Xi’an City Wall! This massive wall encompasses all sides of the city, towering ~ 12 meters high and 16 meters wide to prevent unwanted guests from forcing their way into Xian (its original purpose). Today, the old city wall offers great views of Xian and its surrounding region, and serves as a premium path for both biking and walking alike!
Entrance to the Xi’an City Wall costs 54 yuan for an adult, and visitors can access the path between 8:00 – 19:00 during the day.
4. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda
Another popular destination in Xi’an is the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, along with its North & South Plazas where you can see the bronze statue of Master Xuanzang. This famous Buddhist pagoda dates back to the year ~ 648.

Here in the plaza you can also make dinner reservations and enjoy some people watching, as this is a relatively active area at night.
