Wanaka Lavender Farm Activities
Famous as one of the best flower fields in all of New Zealand (which is saying something), the Wanaka Lavender Farm spans 20 full acres of land, with beautiful scenery in every direction you look. The biggest draw to the farm is its rows upon rows of – you guessed it – lavender flowers! The stunning gardens covering the green fields are the perfect backdrop for an afternoon stroll on a sunny day, for a quiet place to crack open a book, or even for your next fun photoshoot!
In addition to lavender, the farm also boasts a plethora of other flowers that are both local and exotic to New Zealand. They even team up with local beekeepers to bring a wide array of gift options in the souvenir shop that incorporate the essence of the flowers grown on the farm, including natural oils, soaps, creams, and honey!
A fun excursion for the whole family, the Wanaka Lavender Farm is also home to many animals that you can say hello to during your visit, including highland cows, goats, alpacas, miniature horses, and more!
When you’re done exploring the grounds, or just need a rest from being on your feet, there is also a small cafe area where you can purchase tea & ice cream and enjoy the amazing views!
How to Get to the Wanaka Lavender Farm
To get to the Wanaka Lavender Farm from the town of Wanaka, all you need to take is take a short five minute drive up Highway 84 (which will turn into Highway 6) and then take a right onto Morris Road. It’s as simple as that! There is ample parking available at the farm and you can just leave your car for free while exploring the grounds.
If you do not have a car, since it is such a short ride from Wanaka we would still recommend hiring a taxi to take you there with ease. There are currently no public transit options that go directly to the farm. If pressed, it is technically within walking distance (1 hour) from the heart of Wanaka, but there is no direct trail and you would be walking along roads. The best transit option would either be by bike or car.
If you are not staying in Wanaka, but instead booked a place in Queenstown during your visit, the Wanaka Lavender Farms are still within reach for a day trip! The fields are only an hour’s drive up from Queenstown in one direction.
When To Visit Wanaka Lavender Farm
Fortunately, the Wanaka Lavender Farm is open year round, so no matter what time you happen to be in New Zealand you can make a pit stop at the fields! However, the most popular times to visit are of course during the summer & spring seasons of New Zealand: December – March.
The Wanaka Lavender Farm is open between 9:00am – 5:00pm during the popular travel months of September to May, and from 10:00am – 5:00pm during the offseason of June to August.
Access to the Wanaka Lavender Farm
The flower fields of the Wanaka Lavender Farm are completely free to access, and the farm in general does not require the purchase of tickets in advance. If you would like to enjoy a guided tour of the farm or meet with the animals, you can purchase tickets upon arrival or by request at the fields. Prices vary by season and are listed below.
Wanaka Lavender Farm Experience Ticket Prices
- Adult (16+): $15 from December to March, $7 from April to November.
- Child (5+): $7.50 from December to March, $3.50 from April to November.
