Travel Priorities

When choosing a place to stay while traveling, it is helpful to talk through your accommodation priorities with your travel companions before you start booking reservations. What is most important to you? Location? Amenities? Budget? Comfort?

It is helpful to be on the same page about the type of accommodations you would like to stay in ahead of time so that everyone is comfortable on the trip.

Location

To the locals, Ronda is split into two main sections: Antigua and Moderna. In English, “Antigua” would translate to “old” or “former,” while Moderna would translate to “modern” or “new.” These two main sections of the city are divided by the famous landmark bridge in Ronda, called the Puente Nuevo.

If you would prefer to stay in a central location in Ronda, you will want to prioritize accommodations that are near this Puente Nuevo bridge. This will allow you quick access to both the Antigua and Moderna sections of Ronda. It will also allow you to admire Ronda’s iconic bridge frequently throughout the day. 🙂

The Antigua half of Ronda is filled with consistently styled architecture, primarily painted white, that contrast beautifully with their natural surroundings. From here you can access the Baños Arabes, the Puente Viejo, many of Ronda’s museums, and several hiking trails! Generally speaking, Antigua has a more relaxed, quieter pace when compared to Moderna.

Moderna is comprised of a bit more variety in its buildings & architecture. Here you will find greater access to shopping & restaurants, and a lively scene once the sun goes down. This half of Ronda provides the quickest access to the Plaza de Toros and Carrera Espinel.

The entirety of Ronda, from one end to the other, is walkable (roughly 2 miles if looking to walk through all of the neighborhoods). So even if you were to choose your accommodation on the outskirts of the city, it should still be relatively easy for you to get where you’d like to go.

Safety

Ronda is a very safe area to visit in Spain, with precautions generally limited to basic awareness of petty theft or car break-ins. To ease this fear, you may prioritize accommodations that offer secure parking areas to reduce the likelihood of damage to your car. Having said that, I would like to add that in my six weeks living in Ronda, I never felt unsafe walking around on my own.

Each neighborhood in Ronda should be considered as safe as the next. This tip is not specific to Ronda, but in general if you are someone who gets nervous about safety in new places I think it is often more comfortable to prioritize staying in a high trafficked, central location. In this case, that would be somewhere near the Puente Nuevo (listed above).

Amenities & Budget

Another thing to consider prior to booking your reservation is your budget for the trip. For some, the accommodations are an impactful contributor to how much they enjoy their trip. They may build in time in their itinerary specifically to enjoy their room or the amenities offered at their accommodation. For others, the accommodations may just be as simple as somewhere to sleep for the night and leave their stuff while they are out exploring for the day.

Understanding which category you and your travel partners fall into will help for a smoother trip. Check out the accommodations below based on your travel style.
