Catalonia Reina Victoria | Ronda Hotel Review

As someone who has spent a total of seven weeks living in Ronda, Spain, I without a doubt recommend the Catalonia Reina Victoria Hotel to anybody who asks me for recommendations of where to stay in Ronda.

I had the amazing opportunity to live in Ronda for a full six weeks back in college, hosted by locals. For our end of year celebration our local professors chose the Catalonia Reina Victoria Hotel for our farewell dinner – because they knew it had the best view over the Tajo in all of Ronda!

To book your stay at the Catalonia Reina Victoria Hotel based in Ronda, Spain, you’ll want to try to plan in advance. During the high season (March – May) of travel in Spain, it can fill up pretty quickly!

For that reason, it’s a good idea to check your travel dates early to prevent somebody else from grabbing those last rooms before you.

Location & Views of Catalonia Reina Victoria

Okay now let’s get back into it – the Catalonia Reina Victoria is my favorite place to stay in Ronda for many reasons, but first let’s talk about the views! Even the leaders of my study abroad program, who are locals to Ronda, chose this hotel as the host for our end-of-semester celebration due to it having some of the best views of the whole city!

Ronda is famous for being a steep cliffed town (located on el Tajo) that looks out over rolling Spanish mountains, miles of pasture, and the valleyed Guadalevin River. The Catalonia Reina Victoria Hotel is located right on the Tajo, so you get the perks of enjoying Ronda’s most famous views right from your living quarters!

On top of the hotel having the best location for picturesque views, it is also only a ten minute walk from the Puente Nuevo, the heart of Ronda! From the Catalonia Reina Victoria, you can easily walk to all of Ronda’s biggest attractions, as well as the core shopping area of the city. For reference, the distance to some of the top spots in Ronda are provided below:

  • The Puente Nuevo: 10 minute walk
  • The Plaza de Toros: 8 minute walk
  • The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Merced: 5 minute walk
  • Alameda del Tajo: 8 minute walk
  • Carrera Espinel: 8 minute walk
  • The Baños Arabes: 15 minute walk

The address of the Catalonia Reina Victoria Hotel and Wellness Spa is C. Jerez, 25, 29400 Ronda, Málaga, Spain.

Restaurante Azahar

Another big reason I recommend the Catalonia Reina Victoria is that it has some of the best dining in all of Ronda. It’s feature restaurant, the Azahar, is one of the nicest places to eat in the city, both for the aforementioned views – but also for the food itself.

The service at the Azahar Restaurant is extremely friendly & attentive, and the menu offers delicious plates of Spanish food. We chose to start our meal with some croquettas caseras, then moved on to salmon, sirloin, and a chocolate dessert!

While the restaurant takes reservations regardless of if you’re staying with the Catalonia Reina Victoria or not, those with a room in the hotel are often offered a discount for their first meal – so again, just another added bonus.

Infinity Pool & Wellness Spa

An incredible destination for a bit of rest & relaxation, the Catalonia Reina Victoria offers a luxurious wellness spa & stunning infinity pool, in addition to a sauna and jacuzzi. While I often forget to take advantage of hotel amenities such as pools while traveling, these are some that nobody will be able to overlook.

The spa and infinity pool are popular with all visitors, and are the perfect way to rest during the daily Spanish “siesta” if you’re visiting during the warmer months.

There is also ample sitting room around the pools for guests to lounge at while enjoying the view if they don’t want to be in the water!

Rooms & Amenities

While you’ll probably want to spend most of your time enjoying being pampered somewhere on the hotel grounds, the rooms themselves are nice as well. We were traveling in a group of three, so we needed a triple room, but the Catalonia Reina Victoria also offers double rooms and suites as well.

The rooms are stocked with a coffee machine, snack bar, extra towels (to accommodate both the shower & pools), hair dryer, television, and more. The bathrooms have a clean shower, private toilet, and bidet. Additional amenities offered during your stay are listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Free WiFi
  • Hotel Gym
  • Laundry & Dry Cleaning
  • Bike Rentals

Shared Spaces

While it’s always expected to have a comfortable room when staying in a hotel, the Catalonia Reina Victoria also offers comfortable shared spaces. The lobby area offers a lot of seating and was decorated with care. The front check-in area always has a staff member present, offers complimentary mints & coffee, and even has an activity-kiosk that provides information on the most popular activities to do in Ronda.

Other shared spaces include a hotel bar (where you can pick up your complimentary glass of cava wine, local to the region), outdoor patio, and outdoor garden.

On-Site Parking

An often overlooked but extremely helpful convenience when staying at a new hotel is on-site parking. Fortunately the Catalonia Reina Victoria offers parking at the hotel! This makes it easy to move your stuff to/from your car, and prevents having to coordinate off-site parking in an unfamiliar area.

The parking lot is located on the hotel grounds, so you will drive up to the lobby and then take a left to get to the reserved space. This added privacy offers a layer of security to your car during your stay.

Review of Catalonia Reina Victoria in Ronda: 10/10

Taking all that the hotel has to offer into account, I would easily give this hotel a 10/10 review. But you don’t have to take my word for it! The thousands of reviews on the Catalonia Reina Victoria Hotel reward it with an “excellent” status, making it one of the highest ranking hotels in Ronda, Spain.

While one of the more expensive hotels in Ronda (though it does not have the highest price tag), I think the accommodations & experience offered by the Catalonia Reina Victoria make your stay worth it. Furthermore, assuming Ronda is only one stop of your journey through Spain, splurging on your hotel in Ronda will make your money go a lot farther than if you were booking a hotel in one of the bigger cities, such as Barcelona or Seville. So get more bang with your buck – and book your luxury stay while in Ronda! Make your money work for you.
