Good Memories Lodge: Review and Recommendation
If you’re wondering where to stay in Funchal to get the most bang for your buck, look no further! The Good Memories Lodge truly felt like a home away from home – it was actually the first thing I said when I walked in the door to our suite. Home Away From Home
Before we get into the physical amenities of the Good Memories Lodge, I want to first highlight the attention to detail & care that was put into our stay. The owners of the lodge clearly put thought into what activities you may enjoy while staying in Funchal, and go the extra mile to make your visit special. When we entered the lodge, there was a welcome basket waiting for us on the counter – free of charge – full of local goodies to share.
The owners of the Good Memories Lodge also sent over recommendations of the best restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores in walking distance from the villa. Probably one of my favorite touches, they left some recent Madeira magazines on display in front of the television, full of unique recommendations and hidden gems to explore on the island!

Good Memories Lodge Overview
The Good Memories Lodge is a small private vacation home that has been broken up into seven apartment suites. Located in the Se district of Funchal, it offers easy access to the town center and popular tourist areas in Funchal.
Lodge Amenities
Some of the first features I look at when deciding where I would like to stay, the Good Memories Lodge boasts a host of amenities. Since each apartment is individualized, there may be some variation from room to room, but the list below highlights what can be expected in all apartments.
- Air Conditioning
- Free Wifi
- Smart TV + Free Cable
- Balcony
- Private Bathroom + Shower
- Dishwasher
- Washing Machine, Drying Rack, On-Site Dryer
- Microwave
- Refrigerator
- Coffee Machine
- Toaster
- Heated Towel Rack
And that’s really just to name a few. While we only stayed for a long weekend in Madeira, the Good Memories Lodge has pretty much everything you could want to extend your stay up to a week, a month, really any amount of time! As stated earlier, you can really turn it into a home away from home.
Good Memories Lodge Rooms
The Good Memories Lodge offers a maximum capacity of four people in their apartments. We were traveling with three, and opted for a room with a double-bed and a pull out couch. To our surprise, the couch was transferred into a third bed prior to our arrival – and the bed was made neatly & ready for use.
The kitchen and bathroom in the suite were clean & fully equipped. The lodge offers the following choices of apartment, based on the size of your party.

- Relaxing Apartment: 1-4 person capacity
- Delightful & Cosy Studio: 1-2 person capacity
- Elegant & Spacious Apartment: 1-4 person capacity
- Fantastic & Central Apartment: 1-4 person capacity
- Stylish & Amazing Apartment: 1-4 person capacity
- Modern & Central Apartment: 1-4 person capacity
Lodge Location
One of the strongest reasons we chose to stay at the Good Memories Lodge was its location! Located right in the heart of Funchal in the Sao Pedro, all of the major attractions are within walking distance from the lodge. The beach & marina are less than a ten minute walk from the lodge, and Funchal’s famous cathedral is a mere five minute walk away. There was gelato, dining, and shopping around every corner – and all around the lodge was just extremely accessible.
Parking
While there is no parking directly at the Good Memories Lodge, there is a public park ~ 400 meters away at the Parking Santa Luzia. Overnight parking costs ~ 4 euros daily. Since the lodge is located centrally, you probably wont need to access your car much during your visit. The Good Memories Lodge also offers transport to and from the airport, so if you’re still debating whether or not its worth it to rent a car on the island, we would recommend just skipping it.
Check-In & Check-Out
Standard check-in hours at the Good Memories Lodge run from 3:00pm – 12:00am, with check-out offered from 12:30am – 12:00pm. Something important to note is that there are “quiet hours” in Funchal from 10:00pm – 9:00am, so if you’re coming or going during those hours remember to be conscious of your noise level.

If you’re looking for a comfortable retreat to come home to after your long days exploring Funchal, the Good Memories Lodge is a perfect fit. Its location is extremely accessible, its apartments are modern, clean, and fully equipped, and its overall feel is charming and comfortable. It says it in the name itself, if you’re looking to make some good memories in Funchal, we recommend staying at the Good Memories Lodge!
