One Day in Piran, Slovenia
Piran is a little known but highly beautiful coastal town in Slovenia. Located on the southern coast of the country, Piran provides access to the Gulf of Trieste (which jets off from the Gulf of Venice), right across the water from Italy! The old town of Piran is solely pedestrian, creating a relaxing atmosphere perfect for any vacation.

1. Swim in the Gulf of Trieste
To start your morning, we recommend a taking a dip in the Gulf of Trieste! This access point to the sea is a smaller gulf within the Gulf of Venice in the Adriatic Sea. While Piran does have small beach shores to lay out near the water by, it is most well known for its long stone wall lining Old Town. From this jetty, there are ladders from which you can swim into the water.

Our recommendation is to swim along the rocky jetty. The stones are large enough to perch yourself on while drying, and it is much more spacious than the designated beaches.
The water here is stunningly clear and calm. It really is the perfect way to jump start your day!
2. Walk Along the Promenade
Once you’re done in the water, we next recommend taking a stroll along the promenade. This walking path runs alongside the water around Old Town. It will take you past a handful of cafes, souvenir shops, and restaurants to explore.
You’ll likely find yourself along the promenade naturally, but in the event you’re not staying in Old Town, we just wanted to make sure it was on your radar. đ
3. The Piran Lighthouse
At the end of the promenade, at the coastal tip of Piran, you’ll stumble upon the Piran Lighthouse! This symbol of the town is a picturesque location to look out at the sea, find a nice spot to sit, and relax.

During the summer months, you are able to visit the lighthouse’s interior, though there is a small entrance fee. In the colder seasons you will have to settle for admiring the lighthouse from the outside.
The address of the lighthouse is PreĆĄernovo nabreĆŸje 20, 6330 Piran, Slovenia.
4. Tartini Square
When you’re ready for a break from the water, you can walk back down the promenade to the Tartini Square. This town square of Piran is the public center of Old Town. From here you can do a little shopping at either the permanent shops along the perimeter, or hopefully some local pop-ups right in the square!

5. The Piran Marina
Known as a port town, while you’re by the town square you can check out Piran’s Marina! Here you can take a walk through the many boats stopped along the rows of docks. It is also a common place to get picked up if you’re interested in any boat tours around the gulf.

6. The Walls of Piran
After this, we recommend hiking up to the Walls of Piran that sit on the top of the town’s hill. These walls were once used as a defensive measure to help guard the port, and keep lookout over the surrounding sea. Today they are open to visitors, and provide a great view to admire the town’s skyline from.
The walls are located at Ulica IX. korpusa, 6330 Piran, Slovenia.
7. Church of Saint George
If you enjoy the history of the Piran Walls, you can next check out the Church of Saint George. This church is ornately decorated and a piece of history for the town. This is also the location of the Piran Bell Tower!

The Church of Saint George is located at AdamiÄeva ulica, 6330 Piran, Slovenia.
8. Dinner in the Plaza
After a long day out in the sun, you’ll want to make sure you have somewhere great for dinner! Two of the best places to eat in Old Town Piran are located in the public plaza on the peninsula. Neither of them take reservations, but instead you sit out along the walls of the plaza and wait for your turn in line! The two restaurants you’ll want to look for are right next to each other, called Rostelin and Fritolin pri Cantini. Rostelin offers fantastic Italian cuisine, and Fritolin pri Cantini serves fresh seafood. You can’t go wrong with either!
9. Sunset on the Jetty
Last but by no means least, end your day watching the sun go down over the water from the stone jetty along the promenade. To make it perfect, we highly recommend grabbing yourself some gelato to enjoy as well.
