The Best Places To Visit in Southern Spain
I have an absolute affinity for southern Spain, and count myself lucky that I got to study Spanish with a local homestay while there! While Barcelona has its merits, the southern half of the country is definitely not given enough credit, and is my favorite by far!

Seville
Right off the bat, you can’t talk about southern Spain without including Seville – also known as Sevilla – on your list. Seville is a beautiful, large city in southern Spain that somehow manages to maintain a peaceful atmosphere even with its size. Known for the Plaza de España, the Royal Alcazar, and the Catedral de Sevilla, this city is filled with pieces of history you do not want to miss!

Ronda
My personal favorite destination in the south of Spain is the city of Ronda! Known for its iconic bridge, the Puente Nuevo, Ronda is a beautiful town surrounded by nature with lots of opportunities to enjoy hikes and peak into history. Lesser known than many of the other towns on this list, I love to recommend this to my friends who are traveling as it always takes their breath away and becomes an unexpected favorite!

Granada
The city of Granada is – like everywhere in southern Spain – a beautiful city to visit! So beautiful in fact that it was often used as a summer destination getaway for Spanish royals throughout history. Their vacation residence, the Alhambra, is one a cannot-miss site to see while in Granada, along with its famous street shopping!

Cádiz
For an escape along the southern coast, Cádiz is a popular pick for a sunny beach town. One of the oldest cities in Europe, Cádiz is a port city that includes expansive sand beaches and warm waters. It is famous for its open air food market and beach access.
