For first time visitors, we would recommend finding a place to stay in the neighborhood surrounding Rittenhouse Square. This area of the city is centrally located amidst Philadelphia’s “must see” attractions on both sides of the city. It is in walking distance to both Boathouse Row & the Art Museum, as well as Old City & Liberty Point.
For those who aren’t up for walking, Rittenhouse Square is one of the most convenient neighborhoods to access by public transit. There are bus stops all along the park, and train stations within easy walking distance at Locust, Walnut, City Hall, and Suburban Square. For those who prefer to use a personal car, this neighborhood also offers a lot of car parks & lots since it is so highly residential.
Rittenhouse Square is also considered a relatively safe place to stay in Philadelphia, though of course regular city-precautions should be taken throughout your visit.
