Slovenia Itinerary for First Time Visitors

Slovenia must be one of the most underrated travel destinations in all of Europe, with beautiful lakes, charming coastal cities, and a lively city capital – it really has everything you could want all in one! If this is your first time visiting Slovenia, we’ve got you covered. Our personal recommendations for a week long trip through Slovenia!

1. Lake Bled

Lake Bled is likely the most famous destination in Slovenia, known for its stunningly blue lake water and beautiful mountains in its backdrop. It offers a great opportunity for hiking, swimming, boating, and pure relaxation! Lake Bled is a stop you cannot miss on your trip through Slovenia.

2. Soca Valley

Within an hour’s drive of Lake Bled is the scenic town of Bovec in the Soca Valley. This small town is located amongst the Julian Alps, and known for its ample opportunity for adventure! It is popular to go for a kayak ride in the Soca River, white water raft, paraglide, canyon – you name it! There is ample opportunity to get outdoors in this region of Slovenia.

3. Ljubljana

The capital of the country, Ljubljana is the most populated city in Slovenia. It is centrally located and most major roads run by it as you move from north to south – so it’s an easy stop to add into your itinerary! Ljubljana has canals that run through its city to catch a ride on, as well as an old castle that overlooks the whole region!

4. Postojna Caves

The Postojna Caves are another “cannot miss” destination for your Slovenia itinerary. These expansive underground caverns are filled with amazing natural rock structures, and the tour is fitted for all fitness types with maintained paths and a small train to bring you into the caves depths!

Duration: One Night (or N/A – visit on drive from Ljubljana to Piran)

5. Piran

Another beautiful gem of Slovenia is the coastal town of Piran. This is one of the farthest cities south that you can go before hitting Croatia, and the ocean water is so clear and lovely for a swim! The historic part of town does not allow vehicles so it’s a great area to walk around and explore.
